Commercial Driving

These programs prepare students for employment in commercial truck driving. The Class “B” Truck Driver program includes 200 miles of road driving under the supervision of a qualified commercial vehicle driver prior to completion of the program. Road driving activities will include experience on two-lane, four-lane, interstate, city streets and highways. Twenty percent or more of the experience will occur at night on both wet and dry roads. The content includes operation of Class “B” vehicles; loading and unloading cargo, reporting delays or accidents on the road, verifying load against shipping papers and keeping records.

The Commercial Vehicle Driving program includes 1000 miles of road driving under the supervision of a qualified commercial vehicle driver prior to completion of the program. Road driving activities will include experience on two-lane, four-lane, interstate, and city streets and highways. Twenty percent or more of the experience will occur at night on both wet and dry roads. The content includes operation of Class A vehicles; loading and unloading cargo, reporting delays or accidents on the road, verifying load against shipping papers, and keeping records. Instruction in driving bob-tail, empty and loaded vehicles will be provided.


This occupation has an average wage of $20.84 an hour, based on the Florida Occupational Employment and Wages for Polk County.
